Fried Chicken Attempt

So Sunday Funday was a good one.  If it wasn’t for my boyfriend I swear I would never get out of bed when I’ve been out the night before, but needless to say I got my butt out of bed to start Sunday Funday.  We went to the grocery store got some fresh flowers and food to cook for us and another couple who was set to come over to watch “Eastbound and Down.”  Shaun and I got overzealous and decided to try something neither one of us had done before: Fried Chicken on a skillet.  The idea was amazing considering we were a tad hungover, what better than comfort food?  The menu went as follows:

Jalepenos stuffed with cream cheese, wrapped with bacon and baked for appetizers

Our friends brought a ham ball and crackers and fried okra (from their garden amazing)

Fried chicken, Shaun’s homemade Mac and Cheese, Sister Shubert rolls and Mustard Greens a typical southern comfort food meal

Surprisingly after much effor the Fried Chicken was a success!

Fried Chicken!

Our Recipe for Fried Chicken

  • 1 quart buttermilk, plus 2 cups
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce, plus 2 teaspoons  cayenne pepper
  • 2 chickens (3 to 4 pounds each), each cut up into 8 pieces
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon sweet paprika
  • Peanut oil, for deep-frying
  • It was a success and a wonderful hungover meal:) Topped with some red wine and beers, and a candlelight meal on my porch, it definitely was a Sunday Funday.
